As we come to the end of the financial year, are you in the position to consider a donation to support our work at Saint Hilarion? For taxation purposes there is no better time to make a donation, and from our perspective, we are in need of financial support to help finance the purchase of a range of equipment to assist our residents.
This includes preventive alarmed cushions which can immediately alert our nurses and carers when a vulnerable resident moves from their chair or bed, and also specially designed mattresses to minimise injury in the event that a resident rolls out of their bed at night.
Your contribution can really help to make a difference – thank you!

Sunday 19 May was a very special day of celebration in the Saint Hilarion community. We started the day with a Mass to recognise the May Feast which reflects on the miracle of rain performed by Saint Hilarion in 1855 when he saved the town of Caulonia, in southern Italy, from drought.
Following the Mass, a special lunch was held to coincode with National Volunteers' Week, to thank our volunteers who do such a wonderful job in assisting our community in so many dioffrent ways. Over 100 people came together to share a delicious meal of pasta, calamari, veal scallopine, pollo and much more and believe it or not, there was even some food left over which is a rare thing!
The lunch was our small way of thanking our volunteers who assist our staff with our resident activity programs, by volunteering in our cafe and helping out with our many fundraising activities throughout the year. Perhaps our volunteers are best known for the delicious zeppole (Italian doughnuts) which they cook by the thousands every year at the Italian Carnevale and our October Feast.
We salute all our volunteers, many of whom who have been serving us tirelessly for decades and acknowledge their vital role in helping to serve our community while also preserving our proud heritage.

The Saint Hilarion Next Generation Quiz Night took place on Friday 3 May with over 300 people in attendance and a great night was enjoyed by all.
The event was staged by our aptly named Next Generation Committee, all younger members of our community who share a connection with our history and our values. They are all busy professionals so we greatly appreciate the time they make available to help our with our fundraising efforts while also helping to promote the caring service that we offer to our elderly residents and their families.
Anthony Fazzalari was once again our fantastic Quiz Master and put together a diverse range of questions under topics that included food & grog, sport, famous logos, music, film & television, history and the most popular of all, "guess the song" where live music is played and lots of singing along takes place - Tom Jones and Delilah really raising the roof! We also infused the evening with a couple of rounds of Heads & Tails (see above image) which provided further opportunities for our guests to win prizes.
At the end of the Quiz we had a tie for first place, so in a sudden death playoff the capital of Iceland was all that separated two very smart tables.
Our thanks to everyone who attended, our sponsors, auction items donors and in particular, the Next Generation Committee who ensured we raised $16,000 after all expenses - another great result! See you again in 2014.
