Working in the aged care sector is a rewarding experience that offers a number of career paths. The majority of people who work with us are carers, enrolled and registered nurses, diversional therapists, kitchen/catering staff, cleaners, maintenance staff and a small management and administrative team who oversee the key functional areas of nursing and caring, quality assurance, finance, human resources and general management.
Various skills and experience are generally needed to work at St Hilarion, for instance to work as a carer, a Certificate 3 in Aged Care is the standard entry qualification for workers and will introduce you to all aspects of a carer's role including personal care, resident wellbeing and assistance with daily activities.
Multi-lingual capability, especially the ability to speak Italian, is highly regarded as a significant number of our residents prefer to speak Italian where they can.
While we rely on agency staff to supplement and support our own staff, it is our strong preference to build up our own human resource capacity as this encourages the formation of closer relationships with our residents and enhances our knowledge of their needs and preferences.
